Success!

We had a marvelous turnout on September 22 to celebrate the grand opening of the new installation of the ACS-Midland Section centennial exhibit at the CMU Museum! Congratulations and thank you to everyone who made this possible!

GRAND OPENING!

The day is finally here! Join us at the CMU Museum on September 22 to view the new installation of the Midland ACS centennial exhibit and help welcome Dr. Angela K. Wilson, President of the American Chemical Society, to this celebration!

Centennial Exhibit Update 6/17/2022

In an exhibit, such as the Midland ACS centennial exhibit now being installed at the CMU Museum, it is important that each panel is readable and easily accessible to visitors. This means planning lighting carefully, considering not only the lights themselves but also their installation.

Today’s image shows several members of the CMU Museum staff brainstorming different lighting setups for the centennial exhibit in preparation for visitors soon to come!

Centennial Exhibit Update 4/12/2022

More elements for the Midland ACS centennial exhibit are emerging by the day at the CMU Museum! The lights are now on around the exhibit tower, in place to illuminate the interpretive panels and the interactive features which will be housed around the base.

Last week, Museum Student Assistants Isaac Hunter and Julia Burkholder assembled more exhibit panels – this time mounted on freestanding frames. They previously installed several hanging panels mounted to the new wall!

Julia also worked with Collections Manager Ron Bloomfield to arrange the exhibit’s one-of-a-kind periodic table of elements on one wall. Visit the exhibit when it opens to take a closer look!

Centennial Exhibit Update 3/24/2022

During a ‘work party’ last night, CMU students in the MST 315: Museums, Stakeholders and Communities course made great progress in the installation of the Midland ACS centennial exhibit at the CMU Museum!

These students completed tasks such as preparing walls for more construction, assembling monitors, and salvaging pieces from previous exhibits for use in this project. They were also instrumental in testing the setup for the exhibit’s “tower”!

Thank you to all for your hard work!

Centennial Exhibit Update 3/22/2022

The Midland ACS centennial exhibit at the CMU Museum is blossoming with the new season!

Last Thursday, CMU Museum Student Assistants Julia Burkholder and Isaac Hunter were instructed by Collections Manager Ron Bloomfield in the technique of covering the newly-constructed walls (made of recycled material from past exhibits!) of the exhibit area with an appropriate neutral base. Using carpet as cladding for this space has many benefits, such as providing a surface to support hook-and-loop backing on exhibit elements. More updates coming soon!

Centennial Exhibit Update 2/16/2022

The heart visible in the last blog post occupies a wall which will soon be covered by materials for the upcoming Midland ACS centennial exhibit. Painted by Museum Student Assistant Taryn McCarthy, the huge heart is now filled with writing from students currently in Museum Studies and related classes, as well as students and staff who work at the Museum.

Someday, when a new exhibit cycles through the main gallery, future students will reveal these notes and experience this unique time capsule. Happy Valentine’s Day!
